The World Wide Web saw significant developments in 2008. There were major increases in the utilization of web-based communication technologies, such as Skype for live, face-to-face conversations. Advertising is leaning more and more toward the web, with less significance being placed on traditional marketing media. Online multi-media has become increasingly popular and has transitioned to cellular devices. Social networking sites have proliferated the web. What's next? 2009 will see a continuation in the development of communication technologies. Advances in audio and visual clarity and consistency will likely result in programs such as Skype becoming more common place in the home and business environment. This will reduce household and business costs and with some luck, the economy should begin to improve. It's a simple conclusion, and a long leap, but feasible. Online multi-media will become a more common place to watch television programs and movies. The clarity and speed will continue to improve and selection will increase as more companies scramble to grab their piece of the market share. Marketing will take on a new face- with companies developing their own television series to promote their products. Lexus has started this trend with its L-Studio, where improvised acting takes place. More competition will emerge in the web market place. More companies will be vying for the marketshare available, and this should result in a reduction in costs, particularly when coupled with the current economic conditions. The Web will become more mobile - it will be more easily accessible on cellular phones and other PDA devices. More pages and programs will be designed for portability and possibly offered for free. The income generated by advertisements, marketing expenses and licensing agreements will cover these costs. |
