Cyber Monday Cyber Monday is the Monday following Black Friday. This is the ceremonial start day of the holiday online shopping season in the United States Thanksgiving and Christmas. This term was first used during the holiday season of 2005. Research shows that 77% of online retailers have an increase in sales the Monday after Thanksgiving. Cyber Monday is a very busy day for online retailers. The basis of this day was that consumers would go back to work on Monday after Black Friday weekend, making online purchases that they were not able to make in the store. Although, this day must survive the test of time, it has come to be a significant marketing event where online retailers offer online specials and promotions. There are two noticeable reasons why online sales increase on Cyber Monday. One is that people see items in stores over the weekend, but wait to buy them online on Monday. At this time, they can compare prices, stay out of long lines and take advantage of free shipping and other specials. The other reason is that people wait to get to work on Monday to use the office computer for purchases because it has a faster internet connection.
